Koresh Dance Company Master Class
                               & Performance

 

On February 1st, members headed back to Contemporary Dance Theater in Cincinnati for a master class with Koresh Dance Company in the morning, followed by a performance by the company in the evening. We filled our extra hours between the class and the show exploring the Cincinnati Art Museum and having some impromtu improvisational fun.

Advocacy for the Arts

 

 

In December, MoCo performed in this night of the arts hosted by Stop the Silence, an organization which promotes the awareness of child sexual abuse. Dancers worked in two and threes and created compositions focused on an idea of support.

Doug Varone & Dancers Master Class
                               & Performance

 

On November 2nd, MoCo had its first field trip to Cincinnati's Contemporary Dance Theater where we had the opportunity to take a master class taught by Doug Varone dancer Julia Burrer. Later that evening, the group attended a performance by the company and a post-show discussion with the dancers and Doug Varone.

One Billion Rising

 


MoCo is teamed up with the Middle Way House on February 14th to participate in their One Billion Rising flash mob! This is an event that occurs annually worldwide to raise awareness of sexual and domestic violence, and promote the empowerment of women.

The Making Of.
 

Senior and MoCo board member Eryn Blair produced her own show this spring featuring her own choreography, as well as choreography by members Annie Ellis, Amelia Heintzelman, Leah Fournier, Emily Forche, and Ryan Galloway.

Living Sculptures

 

 

On March 26th and 28th, this live performance art series led by MoCo board member Leah Fournier was performed in the beautiful Indiana University Art Museum Atrium. The piece drew inspiration from sculptures in the human form and explored movement in an improvisational score format.

"Peace of Ass"
Israeli-Palestinian Fashion Show

 

Independent artist Ariel Katz and IU professor Jon Simons worked with MoCo members to create a performance art fashion show to perform at the Zizek Studies Conference to bring together the Israeli-Palestinian cultures and promote a message of peace.

Movie Night - Unsettled
 

In September, MoCo members met to watch and discuss the collaboration between David Dorfman and Korhan Basaran as part of DanceMotion USA's fourth season. The piece was produced by and performed at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and explored the concept of reconciliation.

One Week Residency

In March, MOCO sponsored a one week residency with Kathleen Hermesdorf and Albert Mathias, with the help of Selene Carter. The students partook in modern classes, rep classes, lunches, Q&A, and a special showing at the end of the week. 

In Part: A Study of Two

Board Members Leah Fournier and Amelia Koper put on an independent project with help of MOCO. The show featured chorepgraphy by Leah Fournier, Amelia Koper, Eryn Blair, and Annie Ellis. 

Brush Strokes

In December, we explored the motion of brush strokes, the postures and positions of figures in classical artwork, and the effect sound had on a group of movers. All movement was created on the spot in the form of three improvisational scores.
